a Scheißehaus Decemberfest in München Ausfahrt style
It was another early morning flight for us on Saturday 8 December 2007 from Stansted to Munich, Germany. To make the experience more enjoyable we were once again travelling with Team Gilbert for what we hoped would be another shithouse weekend!
There was a short delay in taking off; something to do with the emergency exit door where Nik & Paul were sitting (they swear they didn't do anything) so after the engineering crew made the necessary repairs we were up in the air and already a little behind schedule.
We had a pretty hectic weekend planned which went something like this:
Eat sausage
Drink beer
Visit Christmas markets
(repeat)
Also on the agenda was Neuschwanstein castle in the Bavarian Alps. This is the most photographed building in Germany. The castle was apparently the inspiration for the Disney castle/logo. There had been some snow prior to us visiting so the scenery looked like it had come straight out of a fairy tale.
Hofbrauhaus was the location for dinner the first evening. It is one of Munich ’s oldest breweries, certainly one of the biggest beer halls we have ever seen and the beer (steins of course), pork knuckle, schnitzel and apple struddel did not disappoint.
Augustiner Bierhalle another beer hall was the venue for lunch the following day. More schnitzel and beer action made us all very shiny, happy people.
Along with all the food and drink action we checked out the Frauenkirche (Munich's postcard church), Residenz (amazing gilded interiors), Theatinerkirche, Glockenspiel and the views at night from the tower of Neues Rathaus (town hall).
We got plenty of Christmas market action adding to our somewhat small collection of Christmas decorations. Plus there was plenty of sausage, chocolate coated strawberries and other equally tasty food to choose from.
