Land of Little Coloured Bricks and Probably the Best Beer in the World

Finally, another trip! This time to Denmark, famous for LEGO and Carlsberg. Although we didn't get a chance to get up to Billund where Lego is made, we did have two days in Copenhagen, Denmark's capital where we drank a lot (and we mean a lot) of Carlsberg.

What we really enjoyed included:

  1. Changing of the Guard at Amalienborg Palace - we could see what was happening and get in and amongst the guards unlike at Buckingham Palace.

Changing of the Guard at the Palace - no Crown Princess Mary
  2. Frederik's Church (The Marble Church) - has the largest dome in Scandinavia which we were fortunate to make the fascinating climb to the top of (awesome views). This was actually really, really cool and was the highlight of the trip for both of us.

    The Marble Church
  3. Rosenborg Castle with its beautifully preserved antiques and the crown jewels. We thought it was great that you were actually allowed to take photographs inside the castle (including inside the vault with the crown jewels)! This is the first castle or palace that has really let us do so and was a refreshing change from the 'no photos' attitude.

  4. Round tower - originally built as an observatory it now offers views over the old part of city. The best bit is there are no spiral stairs (or any stairs for that matter)!

Round Tower - no spiral stairs - yeah!
  5. Forget 31 flavours of ice cream... try 31 varieties of hot dogs! YUM! Ice cream was also YUM!

    Opera House

We didn't have a chance to get inside the Opera House however we thought it was a sensational building. Much different to Sydney's. We also visited the "Little Mermaid" (Hans Christian Andersen's well known fairytale and one of the cities most photographed tourist attractions) and Christiania (think dead beat, slum, drugs, dirty, hippy town). We also took a canal boat ride and saw many, many, many statues.

The only downside of our trip was the copious amount of rubbish and crap everywhere.

Overall a great weekend!

Wonderful Warwick

Even though we were feeling like shit (read hungover thanks to Cliff and Chev) we decided that our plans to go to Warwick were still a wonderful idea. Hahahahahahaha!

Warwick is about 2 hours train ride from London (and 6 hours return - don't ask!) and boasts Britian's greatest medieval
castle. The castle is funded (owned) by Madame Tussauds, and is one of the most preserved and interesting castles that we have seen. They did archery and crossbow demonstrations as well as siege weapon demonstrations where they launched projectiles (Rob was hoping for dwarves and would have settled for Leprechauns but was disappointed). The siege weapon, a tebuchet (a huge catapult), was actually the world's largest (standing at 18m tall) and was the most formidable of the siege machines.

We also visited St Mary's Cathedral (finest medieval chapel in England) were we climbed another spiral staircase to the top of the tower. Another fascinating feature was that the chapel housed really dead - I mean really old - dead people (it was built in the 15th century to house the tomb of Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick) .....really old!!!!

St Mary's Naughty boy

Friday 13th........scary!

As house warmings go, this one was strangly themed and quite unusual. Cliff, Chev and the rest of their house mates threw a Friday 13th Childhood phobia housewarming party. The decorations were enthusiastic, the food gruesome and the chicken liver violently horrific.

Aaarrrgggghhhh chicken liver anyone?.....

HELP! Creepy Cliff, Chev the Clown, Bec the Pirate and Lou the Scary F*c?k7&er!

End of night quote – "I'm not drinking with Cliff and Chev ever again. EVER! They always get me so drunk" (Lou, first night after nando's, second night after Chev's birthday party) - London, 2006

......when will she learn (not this night)!!!!!!

Not a much a happ-a-ning!

Not much has been happening this neck of the woods for the last couple of weeks as the weather has been typically 'London'. Yesterday (Saturday 7 October) the sun decided to show us what it looked like again so off we went with Star on a canal boat ride on Regent's Canal from Little Venice to Camden. The scenery was lovely with fall evident in the changing colours of the leaves. Gives us something to look forward to when Rob's folks head over this way........hint!!!!

Regent's CanalWith no evidence of the beautiful rain that Lou was dancing and praying for, Rob, Lou, Star and Anna today took part in the "Nike Run London" 10 km. Most participants did PB's and look absolutely awesome in their orange South team, semi-see through shirts. Thanks must go to our team photographers Kris (Team Canon) and Adam (Go Team Nikon) for their support and great shots!

Anna, Rob, Lou & Star, South Team (Courtesy: Kris Evans photographer extraordinaire even with a Canon)Apart from these shenanigans we are seeing "Wicked" this week, "Evita" next week and have some trips planned in the next month or so. We've added Wales to our trip list so we can see Australia (hopefully) play Rugby! We have also been doing the "Hoff" to celebrate his eventual Number 1!
