Brighton

The weather here in the UK has been very nice of late. Balmy nights and daytime temperatures rising up into the 30C's. Rather than waste a day inside we took the train one Sunday and ventured to Brighton. What began as an overcast day turned to a delightful afternoon of sun, suncream, fish and chips and pebbles. That's right, no sand at Brighton, but lots of stones and pebbles. Brighton comes with complimentary tacky pier and as all locals do, we hired an umbrella and deck chairs and relaxed the afternoon away. Given that Brighton is just over an hour from London it made for a perfect summer Sunday.

Tower of London

Last Saturday we slept in so didn't get a chance to go to Wimbledon. Instead we did the tourist thing in London and climbed the 311 steps (have we mentioned before that we love spiral staircases) to the top of Monument. Monument is a monument (no shit, huh) in memory of the great fire of London from 1666 which offers great views of the city of London. Plus we could see our place from the top!

We also took a tour of the Tower of London. Highlights:

  • The 12,000 cut and uncut diamonds from deBeers (wow!);
  • The Royal jewels including HM's crown;
  • The ravens (it is believed that if the ravens leave the Tower, the Tower will fall); and
  • The view offered when Tower Bridge lifted.
