Mega Wale of a Time!

Just to confuse the Easter Bunny we decided to go to Wales for the Easter long weekend. Friday morning we boarded the Mega Bus from London; destination Cardiff, Wales. The journey was very uncomfortable (read 'shithouse') as the bus was packed to the rafters and we managed to get the back seat. Rebels we're not, as the exhaust fumes almost suffocated us, the heat of the exhaust melted us and to top it off, Rob was wedged up some fat bastards arse cheeks who had decided to sit next to him (read on him).

Drama's were to follow as Google Maps gave us incorrect directions to the hotel. Not to be outdone, LastMinute.com also listed the hotel phone number of a different hotel and after calling for directions we arrived at the wrong hotel. Finally after a couple of hours of walking around the "hood" of Cardiff we managed to locate our hotel and check in.

The rest of the afternoon was pleasant, with a visit to Cardiff Castle, a walk around the gardens and uni, and a few pints of the local brew "Brains" in the
Goat Major.

Day two we hired a car for our journey to Caerphilly Castle, Tintern Abbey and Raglan Castle. Both castles and the abbey are extremely old and unfortunately in ruins however it was amazing to think of what they would of been like a thousand years ago. The shear size of them and the thought and money that must of gone into the construction of them is hard to believe. Another drama for the weekend was when Lou's digital camera battery went flat and she had to resort back to her beloved SLR which thankfully (for Rob) she had bought with her. Now that we were castled out, we ventured to the seaside resort town of Aberystwyth complete with ugly pier, and of course, compulsory castle ruins.

Day three we boarded an old steam train which climbed through the scenic Vale of Rheidol to Devil’s Bridge. Devil's bridge is a set of three bridges built on top of each other. It also has some beautiful nature walks, the highlight being a huge 300 foot waterfall and Jacob's ladder (the steepest stairs we've ever seen). Once back in Aberystwyth we decided on another type of rail journey, a cliff top funicular which offers some amazing views of the coast and the city. Then it was back into the hire car for a coastal journey down to St David's.

St David's in is the Pembrokeshire and is a beautiful little city (the smallest in the UK as a fact) and the highlight of the trip. The Pembrokeshire has some incredible cliff top walks which we treked. Absolutely breathtaking. Some of the most gorgeous scenery we've seen.

Monday after checking out a very cool St David's Cathedral we drove back to Cardiff and jumped back on the Mega Bus for round two. The journey home was much nicer (with views of Windsor Castle) and we arrived back in London, already counting down the days till our next trip.
